The Mature Drivers Confidence Builder Course is a practical, one-to-one on-road session for drivers aged 60 and over who want to review their current driving skills or rebuild confidence behind the wheel.
Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes and is delivered by a specially trained DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). The course takes place in the candidate’s own vehicle and is designed to be relaxed, reassuring and supportive.
This is not a test. There is no pass or fail. The session is designed to reduce driving risk by increasing confidence and awareness, helping mature drivers stay safe on the road for longer.
What the course covers:
During the session, the assessor will:
- Evaluate current driving ability in real road conditions
- Identify areas where confidence or skills may have changed
- Provide practical guidance on improving awareness and reducing risk
- Assess common areas of concern for mature drivers, including junction decision-making, speed and distance judgement, and observation
- Identify any further training needs
Before the on-road session begins, the assessor will carry out basic vehicle safety checks, verify the candidate’s driving licence, and confirm they meet the legal eyesight requirement (reading a number plate at 20 metres).
What you receive after the course:
Every candidate receives:
- A written Driving Risk Assessment Report, sent by email
- Access to an exclusive post-course training video to reinforce learning
If the candidate wishes, the report can also be sent to a family member or carer.
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: £99 (including VAT)
Format: One-to-one, on-road
Eligibility: Full UK driving licence holders aged 60 and over
Vehicle: Candidate’s own vehicle (must be roadworthy, taxed, insured fro training purposes and hold a valid MOT where applicable)
Coverage: Delivered nationally across the UK, subject to assessor availability
How it works:
- Book online. Complete the booking form and payment at bltdrivertraining.co.uk/driver- training/mature-drivers
- Assessor contact. A local DVSA-approved assessor will contact you within two to three working days to arrange a convenient time and meeting location close to your home.
- Complete the session. Meet your assessor and complete the 60-minute on-road session in your own vehicle.
- Receive your report. Your written Driving Risk Assessment Report and access to the post- course training video will be sent to you by email.
Why this course matters:
UK road safety data shows that mature drivers account for around 24 per cent of car driver fatalities and approximately 13 per cent of killed or seriously injured collisions. Common contributory factors include failing to look properly, misjudging speed or distance, junction decision-making errors, and changes to vision and health.
These figures point to the value of early, proactive support rather than reactive action after an incident. A confidence-based driving session can help mature drivers recognise changes in their driving, address specific concerns, and continue driving safely for longer.

Cancellation policy:
Candidates may change or cancel the assessment date by giving seven days’ notice by email. If the required notice is not given, no refund will be issued and a re-booking will attract the full fee.
