Mary Carnegie

My previous employment was as a Nursing Sister in Accident and Emergency in Southampton for over 30 years. After retiring I became involved in voluntary and community work in Southampton and became a member of several groups, which has greatly increased my knowledge of what is happening locally and who and where to contact for information.
I am employed as Information and Advice Service Co-ordinator by Age UK Southampton, who are an independent Charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people and their carers. We provide information and advice on a wide range of issues.
As a 70+ driver with a medical condition that has required me to renew my driving licence every 3 years, I am totally committed to the older driver and aware of issues and worries facing them. If they lose their licence and do not have the security of their own transport, it is important to give them the options of alternative transport available to them and there is help and support with this.
My previous employment also gives me an insight as to what can happen if and when your health issues affect you’re driving and the repercussions.
