Jane Weir – Occupational Therapist and Co Manager at Wessex DriveAbility

I am an Occupational Therapist and co-manager of Wessex DriveAbility. I joined the charity in 2006 as a driving advisor to assist clients by assessing their fitness to drive and the possible need for driving and transfer adaptations. I have undertaken a number of driving assessment courses including a Post Graduate Certificate in Driving Assessment and Outdoor Mobility.
Prior to joining Wessex DriveAbility I had experience in the NHS working in neurological rehabilitation, general medical and surgical, orthopaedics and geriatrics.
Through both Wessex DriveAbility and the Older Drivers Forum I am part of a team that is committed to providing professional advice and guidance to older drivers to enable continued safe driving, whenever possible. Ensuring that the older driver is provided with objective and unbiased advice in a supportive and respectful manner is of great importance. I am committed to ensuring that drivers do not end their driving career pre-emptively and also that they are advised when it is the right time to cease driving. Support and advice for family, friends and health professionals is also an important part of my role.
